Attempted Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest
October 30, 2020
On Oct. 28, the Tallahassee Police Department was in the area of Capital Circle Southeast and Apalachee Parkway doing proactive patrol in response to a citizen’s concern regarding quality of life issues in the neighborhood. While in the area, members of the Violent Crimes Response Team spotted a vehicle leaving a possible drug transaction.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle when it fled at a high rate of speed. Officers discontinued efforts to stop the vehicle out of concern for the community’s safety.
A short time after the attempted traffic stop, the vehicle was located by members of the Special Investigations General Narcotics Unit. It was found abandoned at the intersection of Victory Garden Drive and Hays Mill Road. The driver was found in the area and taken into custody without further incident.
Investigators developed probable cause to search the vehicle and discovered 39 grams of methamphetamine, more than 30 pills of prescription drugs and almost $4,000 in cash.
TPD is constantly working to enhance safety for Tallahassee residents and address the illegal sale of narcotics. If you see this type of activity, report it by calling TPD at 850-891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.
