Tallahassee Senior Services’ Deck the Halls Event Goes Digital

Pre-Event Activities Throughout November Lead to Annual Event on Dec. 4

November 05, 2020

Don't let the Grinch carry away your holiday. Make things merry and bright with Tallahassee Senior Services' annual Deck the Halls celebration. This premier event, which helps support services and programs for the community's active aging population, ushers in the holiday season with style. This year's event will help you learn how to deck-orate your home and make deck-lectable appetizers and deck-licious martinis – all from the comfort of your own home in your candy-cane striped pajamas.

To protect the health of everyone involved, this year's Deck the Halls celebration will be delivered entirely via modern technology. Virtual pre-event activities will take place on Zoom throughout the month of November, leading all the way up to Friday, Dec. 4, when Deck the Halls will air on local Cumulus radio station Star 98.9 from 5-7 p.m.

Virtual pre-event activities, include:

  • Deck-lectable Appetizers - On Nov. 5 from 7-8:30 p.m., KitchenAble's Chef Jessica Bright McMullen will teach you how to prepare holiday appetizers that tempt your taste buds.
  • Deck-orating Your Home - On Nov. 12 from 5:30-7 p.m., event planner John Gandy will combine his attention to detail with elegant style to inspire you how to decorate your home and host holiday festivities safely.
  • Deck-licious Martinis - On Nov. 19 from 5:30-7 p.m., mixologist extraordinaire Eric Pounds of Township, along with Michael Spellman of the Sniffen and Spellman law firm, will share tried and true secrets for making holiday martinis.

Each Deck the Halls pre-event activity will take place on Zoom. Tickets can be purchased for $10 each. To elevate your deck-lightful experience, attendees can purchase an additional kit for the appetizer and martini classes. The optional kit is $17 for the appetizer class and $15 for the martini class. To register for these classes and reserve your optional kit, visit TallahasseeSeniorFoundation.org or call 850-891-4003.

To increase the sweetness of these spirited events, you can also donate $50, which will enter you into the drawing for a $250 cash giveaway and some very nice door prizes. Winners will be announced on the radio during the Deck the Halls celebration on Dec. 4. The radio show will also feature holiday music and memory stories from active, local seniors.

Partners for this year's event include Audiology Associates of North Florida, a Division of Tallahassee Ear, Nose & Throat; the Tallahassee Senior Center and Foundation; and other generous sponsors.

The Tallahassee Senior Center, located at 1400 N. Monroe Street, is operated and maintained by Tallahassee Senior Services, which is part of the City of Tallahassee's Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department. For more information on its wide variety of programs and events, please contact the Senior Center at 850-891-4000 or visit Talgov.com/Seniors.
