City Service Changes for New Year’s Day Holiday
December 23, 2020
The City of Tallahassee’s administrative offices will be closed in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021. Following are schedule changes for the week of December 27, 2020, to January 2, 2021, for solid waste customers living inside the Tallahassee city limits (red week), StarMetro and the Animal Service Center.
Solid Waste
During the holiday week, some residential customers will receive service one day later than their regularly scheduled service. This includes garbage / recycling and yard waste / bulky pickup, which will impact red week customers:
- Monday customers ► No change
- Tuesday customers ► No change
- Wednesday customers ► No change
- Thursday customers ► No change
- Friday customers ► Saturday, Jan. 2
Boxes serve as billboards for criminals driving through your neighborhood, and a dry tree poses a fire hazard. To enhance public safety this holiday season, the City of Tallahassee will set up recycling sites in four community locations for cardboard boxes and live-cut Christmas trees. The sites will be open Thursday, Dec. 24, through Sunday, Jan. 10. They will be located at Tom Brown Park (443 Easterwood Drive), Jack McLean Park (700 Paul Russell Road), San Luis Mission Park (1313 San Luis Road) and Myers Park (1206 Myers Park Drive). When dropping off your live-cut tree, remove all decorations; these trees will be recycled into mulch for use in City parks.
Garbage and recycling containers should both be rolled to the curb for pickup by 6:30 a.m. on collection day, with both containers returned to the home no later than the day after collection. You can also view this information in the 2021 Customer Service Guide, which has been mailed to residential utility customers with an active garbage account. While celebrations will likely be smaller and closer to home this year, New Year’s Eve festivities can be unnerving for many animals. Here are some tips that will help your pet have a safe, enjoyable holiday.
- Keep your pet at home inside a sheltered, quiet area during holiday festivities. Leave a TV on to provide background noise.
- Don’t leave animals chained outside. A frightened animal can become entangled in a chain and get injured or break the chain and flee.
- Make sure your pet is wearing an ID tag and rabies tag, which is required by law. Having your animal microchipped is also an extremely effective means by which to identify them. Contact your family veterinarian or the Animal Service Center for more information about microchipping your pet. If you don't have an ID tag for your pet, you may pick up one for free at the ASC during normal business hours, but you must bring your pet with you! If you lose your pet during the holidays, make sure to visit the Lost and Found portal at Talgov.com/Animals to see if you’re missing pet has been turned in.
