TPD Arrests Burglary Suspect
March 26, 2020
Around 2:20am TPD officers responded to the Ross Dress for Less at 2415 North Monroe Street for an alarm call. Arriving officers discovered the rear roll-up loading door had been pried open with great force. They were able to quickly review surveillance footage which showed the forks from a forklift being pushed through the doors and then forcing it up. After gaining entry, the forklift was used to remove an accordion-style manual conveyer belt before being seen driving off.
They were told a forklift had been stored in an adjacent construction site.
A further check of the area revealed a second door had been forced open which led to an area under remodeling in the Centre of Tallahassee at the same address. While clearing the building, officers discovered a construction lock box which showed signs someone attempted to pry it open.
While officers were still on perimeter, they observed a forklift drive into the parking lot. They made contact with the driver, who claimed to be an employee of the construction company and said he was doing work. After speaking with supervisors from the contractors involved in the construction, it was determined the suspect was not an employee and did not have permission to be there.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility.
