TPD Investigates Threatening Social Media Post
October 06, 2019
On October 4, 2019 TPD received a complaint regarding a threat of a shooting incident to be carried out at Lincoln High School. The complainant reported that their child had received screen shots from a social media post. Due to this possible threat, TPD contacted the Leon County School Safety & Security, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations and collectively investigated the possible threat.
Days prior to the TPD’s knowledge and involvement in this investigation, the specific post were investigated by agencies in Pennsylvania and California, due to both states having Lincoln High School names. An arrest had also been made reference the same threat in Pennsylvania.
At this time, it does not appear that this threat was directed at Tallahassee’s Lincoln High School, and TPD will continue to monitor in the event that additional complaints are received.
TPD reminds everyone that we take all threats seriously and continue to ensure the safety of our students. Anyone having knowledge of any social media threats or hearing anyone making verbal threats are encouraged to immediately contact law enforcement.
