How to Purchase

Farebox ticket purchases require cash and exact change is preferred. Change for cash transactions will be issued a Change Card for farebox use only.

Paper bus passes may be purchased in person at C.K. Steele Bus Plaza Information Booth or at the StarMetro Administrative Office. View addresses and hours of operation here.

Digital passes matching the duration and prices of the paper passes may be purchased anytime while on the go using the mobile app Token Transit, or any mobile transit app that partners with Token Transit to provide the option to purchase passes. Simply activate your pass in the app and point the QR code at the scanner on the farebox. View all Mobile Apps and Online Services here.

Smart Cards may be purchased online or in person, and most can be registered and reloaded online at Talgov.com/eFare. Smart Cards can deduct individual trips from a Stored Value or be loaded with one-day, seven-day or 31-day passes. Registered Smart Cards are eligible for replacement in case of damage or theft.

Reduced Fare Smart Cards must be purchased and reloaded in person at C.K. Steele Bus Plaza Information Booth or at the StarMetro Administrative Office. View addresses and hours of operation here.

In-person payments may be made with cash, debit, or credit card. Debit and credit purchases may include additional fees. Unregistered cards, paper passes, and unused transfers are not redeemable for cash and StarMetro will not refund or replace these types of cards if damaged or lost. There is a $3 fee for all replacement Smart Cards.

Reduced Fares

The following groups qualify for reduced fares:

  • Adults 60 years or older
  • K-12 students
  • Individuals with disabilities
  • Medicare customers

Operators may request to view an ID, Reduced Fare Smart Card or other documentation from riders paying a reduced fare in cash or using a reduced fare digital pass.

Instead of paper passes or Farebox tickets, qualified riders are encouraged to get a reloadable Reduced Fare Smart Card.

To get a Reduced Fare Smart Card or purchase reduced fare paper passes, customers must bring their valid ID, Medicare card, and/or proof of disability to the C.K. Steele Bus Plaza Information Booth, 111 W. Tennessee St. (view map), or StarMetro Administrative Office, 555 Appleyard Drive (view map).

Veterans Pass Program

Veterans may qualify to ride fare-free. Contact Leon County Veterans Services to apply. Once approved, StarMetro will register the veteran for a fare-free Smart Card. This card must be renewed and reloaded yearly. There is a $3 fee for all replacement Smart Cards.

Human Service Agency Bulk Pass Program

Human Service Agencies may purchase reduced fare passes in bulk. For more information review this document and email StarMetroPasses@Talgov.com.

Fareboxes

Farebox

StarMetro utilizes a state-of-the-art electronic fare collection system that accepts multiple payment options. These fareboxes accept reloadable Smart Cards, paper passes, digital passes, approved ID cards, and cash.

  • All passes activate on first use at the Farebox.
  • Paper passes are stamped with an expiration date on first use at the farebox.
  • Passes remain valid until the expiration date and time printed on the pass.
  • Exact change is requested when paying with cash. Change for cash transactions is issued as a Change Card that can only be used at other StarMetro fareboxes.
  • Single trip is the default when making a purchase at the farebox. Inform the operator if you would like to purchase a one-day pass instead of a single trip.
  • Transfer tickets are issued upon request at the time of purchase.

eFare

Smart Cards may be purchased online or in person, and most can be registered and reloaded online at Talgov.com/eFare. This online purchase system allows you to register your Smart Cards in case of damage or theft, order new cards or reload value to existing cards.

Ticket Vending Machine

Ticket Vending Machine

Installed at C.K. Steele Bus Plaza, this self-service machine allows customers to purchase new tickets or passes and reload Smart Cards, including Reduced Fare.
