TFD Responds to Residential Fire on Westcott Drive

At approximately 6:30 a.m. on May 25, the Consolidated Dispatch Agency received a call from a resident within the 700 block of Westcott Drive stating her home was on fire. Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) crews arrived on-scene within five minutes and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the home.
TFD crews performed an aggressive attack on the fire and had it under control within 10 minutes. One adult and five children were able to escape without injury. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Damages are estimated to be approximately 50 percent of the home’s value, and the Red Cross was called to assist the residents. Partnering agencies on-scene were the Tallahassee Police Department and Leon County EMS.
Smoke alarms can provide the early warning necessary to escape a deadly fire. TFD will provide two residential smoke alarms at no cost to homeowners who are either physically or financially unable to purchase or install their own smoke alarms.
